Icing Out Cancer and Jersey Auction are Big Success

After months of preparation and countless hours of hard work to promote the event, the first Icing Out Cancer event was held Saturday at the Larson Ice Center.

The Blizzard hosted the Minot Minotauros on Friday and Saturday night, winning the game on Friday 4-3 in Overtime and falling to the Tauros 6-2 on Saturday.

During the game Saturday, the Blizzard wore specially designed purple jerseys that incorporated the words faith, hope, love, strength, and courage in the design. They also incorporated the Relay for Life logo to raise awareness for the organization and the American Cancer Society.

Immediately following the game the jerseys were auctioned off on the ice during a life auction.  The Blizzard are proud to announce that through the auction, raffle tickets, and t-shirt sales, more than $12,500 was raised for the Brookings County Relay for Life. Thanks to the sponsorship for Shane Andersen of Century 21, one hundred percent of the money will be donated to the cause.

The Blizzard were also able to work with the Larson Ice Center staff to paint the ice purple for the weekend. The team would like to thank the City of Brookings and the rink staff for their help with this process.

Leading up the event, Andersen and the Blizzard also sold t-shirts and raffle tickets for one jersey signed by the entire team. On Saturday Shane was also able to get this one jersey signed by Brad Paisley who was preforming that night at the Swiftel Center in Brookings.

The Blizzard look forward to hosting more events like this in the future. The organization would like to thank everyone that worked so hard to make the event a success including Shane Andersen, the Larson Ice Center staff, Relay for Life volunteers, everyone that purchased a jersey during the auction, and everyone who came out to the games this weekend.

The Blizzard take on the Aberdeen Wings on Friday, February 6th at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings. The puck will drop at 7:15pm.
