More Late Game Heroics for the Blizzard

FRIDAY

The Brookings Blizzard have come through once again in the third period to beat the Bismarck Bobcats 4-3 Friday night at the Larson Ice Center. The top line of Justin Moody, Evan Hesse and Eric Brenk received the three stars of the game for their impressive preformance. Entering the third period down 3-2 Brenk scored twice including the game winner with :32 to play in the game. Jordan Stejskal put one on net from the point and Brenk buried the rebound. Brenk tied the game at three with a power play goal midway through the third. Once again Stejskal sent the puck toward the net, Moody deflected right to Brenk who chipped past Bobcat goaltender Brian Nies. Moody also scored for the third game in a row eight minutes into the second on a tip from one-timer off the stick of Evan Hesse. Brandon Anderson scored three minutes into the game on his first shift as a Blizzard, joining the team just a week and a half ago. Blizzard goaltender Drew Weigman came up with some huge saves in the third period and improved to 6-2 on the season. Brookings (12-4) is two points out of first place and will host Minot Saturday night at 7pm.

SATURDAY

 

The Brookings Blizzard beat Minot 3-1 Saturday night at the Larson Ice Center to complete a weekend sweep of the teams from North Dakota. Cody Marooney was the star on Saturday scoring twice including the game winner with about five minutes to play. Thomas Williams added a shorthanded empty net goal to seal it. Williams picked up two points good for sixth place in the NAHL. Blizzard goaltender Drew Weigman stopped all but one shot to improve to 7-2 on the season. Brookings continued to dominate the third period outshooting Minot 15-2 and scoring twice. The Blizzard showed why they lead the league in killing penalties holding Minot scoreless in eight opportunities. Brookings (13-4) has moved into a tie for first place with Austin where they play both games next Friday and Saturday. The puck drops at 7:05pm. Watch the action on fasthockey.com.
