INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNTIES

The Brookings Blizzard are looking for qualified individuals for internships during the 2015-16 season. Internships vary from game day, game operations and promotions, digital media, and media relations. The Blizzard have both full time and part time internships available. Please note that these are unpaid positions, as candidates are encouraged to complete internship for college credit. It is required that interns be available for all 28 home dates (plus playoffs, if necessary) and be a part of the Blizzard Street Team to promote the team in the community and represent the organization at special events. Applicants should be outgoing, energetic, and enjoy working/being outside on top of having a positive attitude and working well both as a team and individually. A general understanding of the game of hockey is encouraged, but not necessary.

Full Time Internships:
Full time interns will work in the Blizzard office 2-4 days throughout the week (Monday-Friday) assisting with day-to-day duties and also each of the 28 home games in their assigned position. Although each full time intern will be assigned to a specific job, he/she will work cohesively with the front office in multiple ways. Candidates must be willing to work long hours when the team is home for the entire school season. These positions are for those that are serious about pursuing a career in the professional sports industry.

Sports Management Internship
The Sports Management intern will put what they have been learning in the classroom to real life experience. Duties will include, but are not limited to: arena operations, public relation appearances, promotional planning, ticket selling, ticket order processing, video/music/media production, grass roots marketing, etc.

Applicants should be pursuing a degree in Sports Management or a related field and have a strong desire to work in sports after graduation. Prior sports experience and/or knowledge is preferred, but not necessary.

Graphic Design Internship
The Graphic Design intern will design graphics for social media networks, website, and other marketing materials. This position will also assist in areas of public relation events, theme night planning and implementation, and game operations.

Applicants should have experience with Adobe Photoshop. Preference will be given to someone that has both graphic design and video editing skills. Applicant must have a creative eye and be able to operate with little direction from management.

Ticketing/Sales Internship
The Ticketing/Sales intern will assist in fulfilling ticket orders, assisting with walk-in customers, helping with office mailings, filing, making sales cals to local businesses and groups, and other box office duties. The intern will be fully trained on our ticketing system. The intern will work in the ticket booth/box office during each of the home games then assist the operations team after ticket sales close.

Applicants should have above average computer skills and possess the ability to learn new computer programs quickly. Prior customer service and cash handling experience is strongly preferred. Applicants should have prior sales and customer service experience, or be interested in learning sales techniques. Because the sports industry is heavily focused on ticket sales, this is a great internship for someone who wishes to jump-start their career.

Media Relations Internship
The Media Relations intern will assist on updating statistics, updating website and social media sites, writing game recaps and press releases.

Applicants should have prior sports writing experience and/or radio broadcast experience.

Part Time Internships:
Part time interns will work each of the 28 home games other community events that the Blizzard partakes in. Interns will assist each game day with the setup of the arena and its operation, becoming a big part of the 2017-18 Blizzard home season. Duties include: coordinating the on and off ice promotions, ticket taking, customer service, camera operations, scoreboard operation, VIP supervision, and other aspects involved in running a successful hockey game. This is a great opportunity to find out if working in the sport industry is right for you!
