Blizzard ‘Toss’ the Bruins in OT

The Brookings Blizzard have beaten the Austin Bruins 5-4 in overtime Friday night at the Larson Ice Center on Teddy Bear Toss night. The Blizzard went up early with a short handed goal a minute into the game when Derek Sand scored from his own blue line. Austin tied it late in the first, but the Blizzard went back up 2-1 just before the end of the period when Eric Brenk scored on a nice two-on-one with Conor Anderle assisting on the play. Brookings came out flying in the second scoring twice with the man advantage in the first two minutes. Evan Hesse scored on a five on three and then Brenk scored his second of the game forty second later for a 4-1 Blizzard lead. Austin came back though scoring twice in the second and once in the third to force overtime. Brookings didn’t allow a shot on net during overtime and Thomas Williams scored his 16th of the season two minutes in to give Brookings their first win against the first place Bruins. Drew Weigman got the win in nets for the Blizzard who are one point out of second place and nine points out of first in the Central Division. Brookings (15-10-1) travel to Austin Saturday night to complete the weekend’s home and home series. Watch the action on fasthockey.com at 7:05
