Blizzard Tender Swanson Makes College Commitment

The Brookings Blizzard are proud to announce that tendered defenseman Ryan Swanson has committed to play at Army.

Swanson will play for the Blizzard during the 2014-2015 season and will then decide whether to continue playing junior hockey another season or move on to play at Army.

During his senior season at Holy Family Catholic High School in Minneapolis, MN, Swanson has 53 points in 27 games with 14 goals and 39 assists as a defenseman.

The Army Black Knights are a NCAA Division I program and compete in the Atlantic Hockey Association. Hockey was first played at Army in 1904.

Swanson will join former Blizzard forwards Nick DeCenzo and Conor Andrle at Army. DeCenzo commited to the Black Knights last December, while Andrle commited in April.

Swanson signed a tender with the Blizzard earlier this spring to play in Brookings during the 204-2015 season. A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders – plus or minus any trades – which become active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft (NAHL.com).
