Blizzard Split with Minot

The Blizzard split with the Minot Minotauros over the weekend as the two teams battle for the final playoff spot in the central division.

On Friday night the Blizzard came out strong, carrying over the momentum from Tuesday night’s 3-0 victory in Minot. Michele Marchetti got the Blizzard on the board first scoring at the 15:27 mark off an assist from Joe Nathe.

Tim Donahue would tie the game 1-1 with a power play goal for Minot in the second periods.

The teams remained tied for the majority of the third period until Evan Hesse scored a power play goal of his own with less than two minutes to play. Wyatt Schmidt and Brandon Parker had the assists.

Minot pulled their goalie after the Blizzard took the 2-1 lead and Russ Jordan would make them pay, scoring just 33 seconds later.

Jon Lizotte gave Minot a chance late, scoring with 27 seconds left in the game but Minot couldn’t get another in the final seconds and the Blizzard would take the 3-2 victory.

The two teams were at it again Saturday night at the Larson Ice Center, but Saturday’s result was not as favorable for the Blizzard as the Tauros won 4-1.

Colton Kramer, Jake Johnson, and Jacob Howie would all score for Minot in the second period to give Minot a 3-0 lead. Ryan Sete scored for the Blizzard late in the period with seven seconds remaining. Minot would go into the second intermission up 3-1. Tanner Holmquist scored one more for good measure in the third and Minot would leave Saturday with a 4-1 victory.

The Blizzard now trail Minot by eight points in the division for the final playoff spot. The two teams will meet four more times in the final weeks of the season.

The Blizzard will be back in action this Friday night when they take on the Aberdeen Wings.  Puck drops at 7:15pm at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings. Watch the game on Fasthockey.com.
