After a scoreless first period the Blizzard look a 1-0 lead just six seconds into the second period but the lead would be short lived as the Bismarck Bobcats would respond in a big way by scoring 4 goals in the frame in route to a 5-1 victory over Brookings on Wednesday night. The Blizzard, still in third place, have now fallen three points behind the Bobcats in the Central Division.
The Blizzard came out of the first intermission with a two-man advantage and capitalized to take a 1-0 lead. Drew Brevig followed Justin Moody’s rebound and put the puck past Bobcat goaltender Aaron Nelson for his 9th goal and 31st point of the season. Moody and Brandon Parker got the assists.
With Chase Wilson in net for the Blizzard, the Bobcats answered three minutes later when Evan Giesler evened things up for Bismarck. Stanislav Dzakhov scored twice in the period and Ryan Callahan added another for the Bobcats who scored three goals in a 5-minute span and took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. In the final frame Daniel Kovar added one more for good measure, scoring on the power play with just over four minutes to play in the game.
The loss was the fifth defeat in the last six games for the Blizzard who had won seven of eight before that stretch.
The Blizzard will be off this Friday but will look to rebound Saturday night at home against these same Bismarck Bobcats. Game time is set for 7:00pm at the Larson Ice Center.
