Blizzard Come Up Short in Austin

The Brookings Blizzard lost 2-1 in a shootout Saturday night against the Austin Bruins on the road.

Late in the first period the Blizzard got on the scoreboard first when Evan Hesse scored with 12 seconds to play in the period. Eric Brenk and Tyler Cayemberg assisted the power play goal.

Neither team was able to score during the second period and the Blizzard maintained a 1-0 lead going into the third period.

In the final period AJ Reid, who recorded a hat trick the night before against the Blizzard, tied the game at one with 6:41 to play in the game.

At the end of regulation the game remained tied. Neither team was able to score in the overtime period and the game went into a shootout.

Aidan Cavallini and Evan Hesse were able to bury the first two shots for the Blizzard, while Drew Weigman was able to deny the first two Austin shooters. But the Blizzard were unable to capitalize on their final three shots, while the Bruins scored each of theirs and out scored the Blizzard 3-2 in the shootout.

The Blizzard received one point and are now two points behind Bismarck for second place in the Central Division.  A weekend double is scheduled for Friday and Saturday night at the Larson Ice Center against the Minot Minotauros.  Game time is set for 7pm each night.
